July 11, 2009 eCrack Competition

We will be hosting a competition in or around Mt. Vernon, IL on July 11, 2009. Sign up in this thread to register.

We will meet up at the Kroger Parking Lot (At the back closest to Fazoli's and near Blockbuster) and then head to the location of the Comp. At the time of this announcement there are several possibilities on location but none can be chosen yet. For this reason we need to set an intermediate meeting location.

Here is the criteria:

Name:
Telephone #:
Vehicle You'll be competing with (Year/Make/Model):
Number of and type of subs:
Number of and type of amps:
How many batteries:

Here are the DB Drag Rules:
http://termlab.com/dbdrag/rules/2009/rules.asp?Org_ID=1
Here are the Bass Race Rules:
http://termlab.com/dbdrag/rules/2009/rules.asp?Org_ID=2

The difference between these two is DB Drag is what you're used to- Who can achieve the loudest score.
Bass Race is about who can SUSTAIN the loudest score. You can use any song you want but you can't use tones. It must be approved by the judges first. Then you play the song and it takes your AVERAGE SPL. Whoever averages the highest spl over a 30 second period wins. This means if you have a very small stereo but you have a secret song that kills, you might win. (It must be a song from a commercially available CD or MP3 that HAS to be approved by the judges FIRST.)

This will NOT be an official DB Drag event which would require STRICT adherence to their rules.
The next event (provided we have enough turn out at this event) WILL be official. This means that we may be slightly flexible on the rules and classes, but probably not very much so as not to get people accustomed to something they will not be able to do from then on.

Many of you will not like the rules as they are set up. They will force most people to compete in the same class due to their set ups. Unless you are competing in super street you are not allowed to have the vehicle running. You are allowed only 1 battery and it MUST be installed in the stock location under the hood with no modifications to make it fit there. It MUST be a 12v electrical system. Then from there you can use their chart to see how many woofers and how many amps are allowed in each class. They also have a conductor limit. This means if you have a + and - going to your box, you are at the 2 conductor limit. If you have 2 of each, this is 4 conductors and you must go up to super street or street stock.

This will NOT be left up to your interpretation. Before you pay your entry fee you will be judged and placed in a class. Then you will be given a copy of these rules and you will be required to sign an acknowledgment that you have read the rules and that you submit to the judge's decisions. The judge will show you in the rules what he or she takes issue with when he/she takes issue with it. It will be very clear and you will be moved to the class you actually qualify for.

The location for this event has yet to be determined. It will probably NOT be in the city limits of MT. Vernon, IL. There are several factors that pretty much rule this out. #1 being consideration for other people. This competition must be held after the sun begins to go down and on a weekend. Some people might be trying to sleep at the time of this competition. For that reason, it must be held away from town. Next, the new stereo ordinance only applies to the City of Mt. Vernon. There is no sound ordinance outside of city limits.

This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. We ask that you do not bring drugs or alcohol with you to this competition. I cannot stress HOW LIKELY IT IS THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT SHOWS UP. There is near 100% certainty. I work for law enforcement, and I have to notify them of where we are. THEY HAVE to stop by and check in from time to time. (It's either notify them and them be kind, or not notify them and they charge us with disorderly conduct.) At any rate, please leave minors at home. Please leave your drugs and alcohol at home. Please be respectful of the property we are allowed to use for this because it will not be owned by me or you.

That should be the last of the nagging.

We're Back!

Well I finally found time to fix the forums. Now that they are up and going it's time for another comp! Over the weekend I did pretty well at the Audio Visionz Father's day competition. It put on display how messed up the Audio Control meters actually are. On my Term Lab meter I hit a 143.1 while at the exact same time hitting a 159.6 on the audio control meter. ALL of this was done with 2 ten inch subwoofers! Had I been allowed to enter, I would have won my class and taken third over all. That's pretty impressive. I am wanting to have competition here in a few weeks.

For those of you that I met at the Audio Visionz comp, please register in the forums and tell me who you are. I'd love to get a local car audio group together to compete and help each other. What we lack in the car audio world is organization. I will have a registration page up for the competition as well as details such as time, place, and rules. You can read about attempts at past comps. There are lots of rules to make it easier and more fun as well as different types of measurement. (Bassrace Vs. Pure SPL comps) Please take the time to browse around and then post whatever you want. I look forward to hearing from you.

FI's New BTL

FI took the BTL off of their site recently and made it unavailable for purchase until May 1st, 2008 for some design changes. The sub is supposed to have the same box requirements as the previous BTL, but instead of having a third magnet option, the sub boasts a single magnet that is stronger than the previous BTL WITH the third magnet option. All other options will remain the same. This should theoretically increase BL and thus efficiency. It shouldn't raise FS so the sub should just be better, less convoluted to configure and not have any real compromise.

Due to the Stronger magnet, the sub's base price will be the same as the old BTL's price + third magnet option. The actual pricing will be identical other than that. Unless you wanted a BTL without a third magnet, the pricing is the same.

Steve Meade has posted up some pics of his BTLs he just received over at SoundSolutionsAudio.com:

Pioneer AVIC-F Series

The AVIC-F series, which will come in three in-dash flavors (two Pioneer, one Premier) and one hybrid portable model. The AVIC in-dash models are extremely impressive, featuring built-in Bluetooth, MSN-Direct, navigation, iPod compatibility, and a host of other goodies.
Pioneer really stepped up on the GUI (graphical user interface), making it really easy to navigate the different menus, via, a 5.8" touchscreen as found on the current D3 model. When using your cell phone or iPod, you can also take advantage of the VoiceBox-powered voice recognition software. However this is not your typical voice recognition software, the AVIC-F has the ability to recognize and accept conversational speech... And it works quite well! The AVIC-Fs accept voice commands via the microphone built-in to the faceplate, and users can select phonebook entries, iPod artists, songs, or genres. You can also expand the new AVIC's with XM & Sirius, HD radio, or a back-up camera. During our testdrive the AVIC had no trouble ignoring "Ums", pauses in speech, or even not following the exact command to request an artist or phonebook entry.

MSN Direct is an additional very unique feature, and provides some pretty handy information that really adds value to the navigation capabilities. The feed from MSN is provided via FM, and can provided access to lowest gas prices, movie schedules, weather, and traffic information. The MSN info is integrated into the navigation, and can re-route based on traffic information, direct you to the gas station with the cheapest prices, or find the nearest movie theater with your desired flick.
Pioneer has really gone out of their way to make sure their new navigation radios are easy to use, resourceful, intelligent, and intuitive. The new AVIC-F series arrive in shops in June, and even if you don't plan on buying a nav unit immediately, I highly recommend checking it out just to see how the bar has been raised.
